Cross contamination is the transfer of harmful microorganisms, usually bacteria and viruses. The spread of infection can occur between people, pieces of equipment or within the human body. Infections can cause many complications, so during an implant surgical procedure dental professionals need to work hard to ensure a sterile environment is achieved.
In order to maintain a sterile environment asepsis must be achieved. It is said that asepsis can hold the key to the long term success of an implant, so it’s crucial that the dental team completely understand the terms asepsis and antisepsis before a surgical procedure is performed.
