With Dry January just around the corner, dental nurse Roz Siddon shares the positive health benefits of quitting alcohol

Roz Siddon joined the Go Sober for October campaign to raise money for Macmillan. It gave her practice – Beaufort Dental Health Centre in Burton-on-Trent – a chance to promote key 'healthy mouth' messages and make patients aware of the signs of mouth cancer. Here, she shares her experience – and we hear why Dry January will also offer the perfect opportunity to talk alcohol and oral health with our patients.

Why did you go sober?

A few reasons really – to promote mouth cancer awareness, as this is becoming a more common cancer and patients are unaware of the causes, signs and symptoms. Another reason was for my own health. I’m not an alcoholic but I did like a drink at weekends. However, hangovers seem to last longer as you get older. And also, of course, to raise money for a great cause Macmillan.
