SBDN charity ambassadors Jenni Pattni and husband Baz have just returned from Uganda, volunteering with Dentaid. Here, they share their experience

We seem to have got the 'Uganda bug' – it’s so hard to explain. It’s a beautiful country with beautiful people. To know that we can help relieve their pain and improve their lives by using our skills gives us the biggest reward. Something that people expect and often take for granted in the west is valued so much in places like Uganda.

The oral health conditions of patients have improved since our last trip. With three trips a year to Uganda, the children’s oral health at the Foodstep orphanage, for example, has shown outstanding improvements. Fewer extractions and now we are focusing primarily on preventive work.
