‘I like to empower’

Amy Thomas share her experience of mentoring dental nurses, as well as masterminding training days for dentists and their teams

You are practice course coordinator at the Dental Implant Clinic in Bath and help coordinate with 40 dentists who are studying for their MSc in Dental Implants, assisting with the practical aspect of the course. How much planning goes into this – and do you have to be naturally organised?

Working at the clinic in Bath has given me so much experience with dental implants and has given me no option but to be organised. The clinic hosts dentist who are on the Bristol MSc for Implantology. This means that each year we have 40 dentists who regularly come in for lectures and appointments with their implant patients. They see the patient from start to end, from the initial consultation to the fitting of the appliance. This totals up to mind-boggling amounts of appointments to arrange and kit to order. I work with an amazing team of dental nurses and administrators who pull together to make it all run as smoothly as possible.
