As a nation, we have a serious problem when it comes to visiting the dentist. More than a quarter of adults admit they have not taken a trip to their local practice in more than two years. More worrying, however, is that around 40% of children do not visit their dentist annually.1 At a time when good oral health habits are most vital, such statistics are a cause for concern. Everybody needs to get involved to educate the young in understanding why dental health is so important.
So, what's the answer? Dedicated children's days are a great way to engage youngsters – and can help to save money and time in the long run. Often held during half terms and holidays, the idea is to make the day fun and relaxed so that children actually want to attend. This becomes all the more important when the parents' irrational fears of the dentist have been passed down to their young ones. After all, if good oral health habits are learned at a young age, there is more hope for the future.
