Keeping skills and knowledge up to date throughout your career is at the heart of what it means to be a dental care professional (DCP). This is a requirement by the General Dental Council (GDC) in the form of continuing professional development (CPD) (GDC, 2013a). As the GDC has now introduced new recommended CPD for all DCPs, there are a vast number of areas for dental nurses to carry out their CPD.
CPD is not only a condition for registration with the GDC, but it can also help a dental nurse in maintaining and updating their skills, knowledge and behaviour throughout their working life. This in turn will help provide good quality patient care and help improve the overall service provided to patients in a safe and trusting manner.
