Dental Nursing talks to Lucia Kitchen about how her clinical experience gives her the edge in practice marketing.

Lucia Kitchen has worked in dentistry for five years and has seemingly found her niche within the profession. Having worked in retail after leaving school at 18, she decided to train as a dental nurse, inspired by her dad who fitted dental surgeries and suggested she consider the role.

“I had nothing to lose, so I dove in,” she recalls. “I emailed various practices to ask for a placement and finally found one that allowed me to start an apprenticeship.”

The apprenticeship involved a two-year online training course and on-the-job experience. Once qualified, Lucia was eager to take on more responsibility.

“As a twist of fate, I worked alongside my now manager on weekends at my previous practice who asked me if I wanted to take up nursing elsewhere. I jumped at the opportunity to start somewhere new and see what I could make of it. I came for an interview with my now manager and Dr Mihir Shah at Kreate Dental. I was told he was brilliant and had a lot of plans for the practice. I had heard these kinds of statements before and had never seen anyone carry out what they promised – until I met Mihir.”
