Spring and summer can be a joy – the new warmth marking an opportunity to dust off the flip-flops and get out the sunscreen. For some of us, however, it can also mean itchy eyes, a runny nose, lots of sneezing, tiredness, and generally feeling pretty grim as the hay fever season takes hold.

As a sufferer with severe hay fever, it gets to May and I start to dread the arrival of summer. I put in my repeat prescription for my antihistamine, nasal spray and the daily eye drops and hope this year won’t be so bad. I tell myself perhaps this year will be different and, with a bit of luck, it will only last a few weeks.
