It’s worth investing time and effort when job hunting – and nowhere is this more important than when writing an application form and constructing a curriculum vitae. John Fowler reveals why

It is relatively easy in any nursing career to become comfortable in the job you are doing. You may feel needed, sometimes appreciated, and often a little indispensible. Rather than actively seeking new roles that will add to our clinical experience, we tend to change jobs only. And, as a generalisation, dental nurses – much like the majority of general nurses – are not people who are always looking for the next big role or career opportunity. When was the last time you applied for a new job – and what was the reason?

Hero or zero?

A lack of familiarity with job applications means there are a few common mistakes that people make when applying for a new job. As you read through the following section, give each of the points a grade out of 10. Zero if the point being made does not apply to you at all and 10 if is something you totally agree with. At the end of the points, total up your score and, if it is zero, then you don’t need to read any further. But, if it is 20 or more, then keep reading!
