Handling the heatwave

The arrival of a British summer is often a cause for celebration, as it offers a welcome break from the unpleasant conditions experienced throughout the rest of the year. That being said, there does come a point where the nice weather becomes uncomfortable, leaving many dental nurses feeling hot under the collar at work.

The term ‘heatwave’ has been used in recent Met Office reports, with forecasts suggesting that record-breaking highs of 39 degrees could be reached in some parts of the UK. This poses the question: is it ever too hot to work?

Although events like these are a rare occurrence, employers must remember they have a duty of care towards employees, so it is unwise for them to ignore the issue and continue working in normal conditions, without considering the wellbeing of workers.
