My journey into the world of dentistry started in 2009 when a dental practice responded to my CV and cover letter which I’d sent in the hope that they would have an opportunity coming up. That’s a little tip for anyone looking to change practices or roles – don’t wait until you see an advert because putting yourself out there shows how keen you are, and you might get lucky like I did! Although I was so happy to get the job, I did find being a trainee a little tricky. I felt rather thrown in at the deep end, mainly because the nurse who was training me had never trained anyone before – and kept forgetting to tell me things – leading to lots of mid-treatment frowns from the dentist when I didn’t have what he needed! All I could do was think on my feet, take lots of post-treatment notes and learn as fast as I could. I am sure plenty of readers know the feeling!
