Dental nurse Nicola Smith explains why setting yourself challenges is a great career boost

Last month, dental nurse Nicola Smith and her colleagues, receptionist Stacy Slinger, got out of their comfort zone to raise money for a local hospice.

The duo, from Taylored Dental Care in Ilkley, zip wired from a local landmark in aid of Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice, which serves the local community.

The landmark was the Pepper Pot, otherwise known as Lund’s Tower, a stone-built folly situated to the south west of the North Yorkshire village of Sutton-in-Craven.

They whizzed 260m at great speed from the top of the tower’s turret to the bottom of the crag, falling 35m as they went. But it was all in a good cause, as Stacy commented before their feat: ‘Our work said we could choose a charity to support for the year, and we didn’t need to think long about who to choose. Manorlands is such an amazing place – they were involved in my dad’s care, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in July 2017.
