Using technology to provide a better customer experience is commonplace. But, now dentistry is harnessing it in a new and exciting way by taking a ‘mental X-ray’ of patients…

We are all familiar with completing online feedback requests and rating the services we've received. Now dentistry is starting to discover the huge potential role technology can play in its relationship with the patient – not just in obtaining feedback, but also in gaining a profile of the patient before even setting foot in the surgery. Based on years of research into technology support treatment of anxiety, Danish dentist Jesper Gilling in collaboration with psychologists and IT experts, has designed and developed an application that seeks to accurately profile a mental picture of the patient. PI Dental is used in over 100 Danish practices, and since 2015 in a growing number of UK practices, allowing the dental practitioner to uncover the patient's treatment fears and desires before they even set foot in the chair. It's like providing a comprehensive mental X-ray of your patient.
