Introduction
Dental nurses undoubtedly have an important role to play, alongside the dentist, when recognising dental emergencies. They are often the first point of contact for patients who are seeking emergency care, and their knowledge and understanding of dental emergencies should be robust to triage these patients correctly and promptly. In some dental emergencies, patients can deteriorate rapidly; therefore, being able to act quickly and escalate appropriately, using the right pathways, is a necessary skill all members of the dental team should have.
