I first dove into the world of dentistry when I saw a job advert for a trainee dental nurse in a neighbouring village. To my surprise, I really enjoyed the role and was lucky to have a dental hygienist mentor who encouraged me to utilise all my skills and progress in the field. I then started my oral health educator’s course, which was slightly cut short when I was accepted to study dental hygiene at the Eastman Dental Institute in London. The funny thing was, I didn’t think I would ever get into study as a dental hygienist. I remembered the slightly scarring words of one of the dentists I worked with previously, “You will never get in there!”
