Lashia Lynch details her journey from dental nursing to dental therapy.

My path into the world of dentistry wasn’t straightforward. In fact, I never really knew what I wanted to do in my career. Dental nursing was something I fell into, but then I fell in love with it. My journey began in 2019, when I worked in general practice, where I assisted both NHS and private patients with a range of treatments. In 2021, I completed my dental nursing qualification. Although the idea of progressing into dental hygiene had always been in the back of my mind, I wasn’t quite ready to take that step at the time.

Exploring new opportunities

Eager to expand my skills, I applied for a role in community dental services and was thrilled to be successful. In 2022, I started working as a community dental nurse, treating patients who wouldn’t typically be seen in general practice. These included special care patients, medically compromised individuals, and hard-to-reach patients. While this role was incredibly rewarding, I still didn’t feel completely fulfilled. That was the moment I decided it was time to take the first step toward a career in dental hygiene and therapy.
