Finding your balance

3 mins read Workplace issues/your health
Amber Williams outlines how dental nurses can achieve that elusive balance between work and life at home.

Achieving a work/home life balance in the world of dentistry is a difficult one to find. This equilibrium of the so-called ‘perfect picture’ consists of enjoying your work, finding time for your family and friends, but most importantly finding time for yourself.

I have found that having a career as a dental nurse can often lead to boundaries being pushed, academically developing, and constantly striving to do better. The only downside to this is your life can slowly become consumed by work. The more you take on, and the more you succeed, the harder this balance is to maintain. I have met many nurses who live and breathe their careers, constantly achieving post qualifications and gaining their well-deserved promotions. Whilst this is all fabulous and really helps to maximize potential, it can also lead to burnout, loneliness, as well as friendship and familial neglect.
