As the childhood tooth decay crisis continues in the UK, it’s important for dental professionals to use their knowledge to better educate children and prevent the worsening of decay going forward.
In light of this, the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy (BSDHT) continues to promote the First Smiles campaign – a wonderful chance for dental professionals to take their roles of educators a step further to ensure that the children in their communities are receiving the advice and guidance they need.
The facts and figures
Statistics surrounding tooth decay among children in the UK are genuinely shocking. It’s also estimated that one in four children are starting school with tooth decay, meaning a lot of the damage is done before they even start formal education.
