Extending the life of handpieces

In a busy practice, keeping on top of handpiece care and maintenance can be challenging and the cycle speed of an autoclave is paramount to efficient turnaround of handpieces.

The life expectancy of a handpiece can be decreased by the sterilisation process, so it's vital to use a maintenance routine that meets the required standards but still protects the instrument in the longer term. This includes using an automatic handpiece maintenance unit and an autoclave specifically designed to sterilise handpieces. Automatic handpiece maintenance units are fast and easy to use and ensure that even the most hard to reach surfaces are cleaned and disinfected, keep instruments compliant and free from damage.

One such unit is NSK's new iCare+, a fast automatic system that effectively cleans, disinfects and lubricates up to four instruments at a time without the need to use a washer-disinfector. iCare+ rotates the instruments whilst injecting special treatment solutions in to all the internal mechanisms and lumen to provide deep cleaning and disinfection, and a pressure spray simultaneously cleans and disinfects the external surfaces. Each cycle lasts for a specific duration in compliance with EN ISO 15883 to guarantee maximum effectiveness for the perfect treatment of every instrument.
