Essential communication skills in dentistry
The tone for the day was set by an interactive session by me, where I discussed the essential communication skills required in dentistry. The session covered communication’s importance in the effective delivery of care in the dental setting and its relevance in developing a healthy atmosphere in the workplace by recognising various personality types, as well as improving one’s listening skills and how to build strong rapport with patients and colleagues by being conscious of body language and facial expressions. Emphasis was also placed on the significance of the impact the terminology we use when explaining the various stages of any dental treatment to our patients.
