Every dental practice in the UK should have at least two people who can fulfil the requirements of working together with other agencies to safeguard children and vulnerable adults. This means there should be a designated safeguarding professional and a deputy. For larger dental practices, there may be a need to have more than two.
These designated professionals should, of course, have received appropriate and up-to-date professional safeguarding training. Indeed, every member of staff working in a dental practice, whether in a clinical or administrative role, should hold an up-to-date safeguarding training certificate, and this is something you will be required to evidence in your next CQC inspection.
