Profile of Jane Cooney, a dental nurse working with patients living with dementia sufferers and special care patients

Jane Cooney is 43 and has been a dental nurse for 22 years. She chose dentistry to ‘gain experience with a view to applying to be a general nurse’. For her, it’s now a ‘challenging but rewarding lifelong profession’.

Jane works in special care dental nursing in a community setting with extended duties and is a project support officer and a secondment role for Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership/Public Health England. She helps to lead the Dementia Friendly Dentistry programme and Healthy Living Dentistry programme across Greater Manchester.

She is also a newly appointed ambassador for the Society of British Dental Nurses (SBDN) and is a member of their North West committee.
