Clementine Rees Brown reflects back on this year’s Align UKI Summit.

Back in May, we saw the largest ever Align UKI Summit take place in London. The day was an excellent opportunity for members of the orthodontic and dental community to come together and discuss the exciting technological leaps currently being made, as well as the much needed focus on positive adaptability in a time of such seemingly relentless economic change.

The day began with a warm welcome from UKI’s general manager Evren Koskal, who emphasised the importance of, “engaging, enhancing and empowering your teams”. Evren also discussed the need to focus on increased business growth and efficiency, leading to exceptional clinical outcomes for all. Next, we heard from Align vice president Abhishek Ganguly, who celebrated the new generation of dental professionals entering the industry and the need to understand the new phenomenon of ‘digital conditioning’, including the shift towards the ‘instant dental experience’ that has taken place. With this in mind, Abhishek discussed the need for a more holistic approach within dentistry, with a specific focus on teenagers and young adults. Following this we heard from Align’s director of research and technology John Morton, who discussed the ever-growing impact of AI technology and the ripple effects being felt within orthodonture. We then heard from renowned orthodontist Sam Daher, who discussed interceptive treatment with Invisalign, and the need to address detrimental childhood habits (such as thumb sucking), in order to prevent avoidable orthodontic challenges in young children. Sam also emphasised the value that every member of the dental team brings, and the need to be considerate of every role whilst assisting on, “the patient’s journey, from beginning to end”.
