We now live in a world where the ability to communicate with our patients has never been easier, largely as a result of the immediacy provided by social media.
Practice leaflets have been largely replaced by websites and a multitude of social networking sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, YouTube and Instagram.The number of social media users worldwide in 2019 is 3.484 billion and the number of mobile phone users in 2019 is 5.112 billion (Hootsuite Global digital Report, 2019). Social media enables individuals and communities to gather, communicate, share and exchange information in a variety of formats – e.g. textual, graphical, audio and video – both quickly and effectively.
