Preetee Hylton talks to Amy Minchin about her career

You embarked on your dental nursing journey five and half years ago after previously working as an optical assistant. What inspired you to make this career move?

When I hit 30, I started wondering, “Where is my life going? Is this a midlife crisis?” I worked as an optical assistant for 10 years and loved it, but I felt it was time for a change. My sister Emily had recently started a job as an apprentice dental nurse at Beeston Dental Practice and was always telling me how great each day was and spoke highly of the team. One day I received a phone call from Emily, who informed me that the practice was looking for a new apprentice dental nurse. I took the plunge and applied for the opportunity. I could hardly believe my luck when I was offered the position. I had so many emotions running through my mind – I was excited for the change but rather concerned at the challenges ahead. Becoming an apprentice at the age of 31 was a daunting thought. However, it has been the best adventure I have been on; I have never looked backed since embarking on my journey in dental nursing.
