Dental nursing journeys

Lead dental nursing lecturer Clare Faulkner hears from her students about their plans for the future

Safina Akter works part time at Walsall Family Dental Practice, a busy NHS practice. She is 41 years old and began dental nursing 11 years ago. She took a break to raise a family.

She says: ‘What surprised me most about the course was that there was so much more to learn than I expected. It was challenging finding the balance between my life, work and college, but I enjoy the role because I am always learning new things.

‘Working alongside other people and connecting well with patients came easy and I will use the knowledge and the practical aspects of the course to help others – I’m even sharing the knowledge of mouth hygiene with family and friends.’
