With the role of the dental nurse on the cusp of something exciting, Fiona Ellwood extols the virtues of self-belief and ambition and reveals why the new British Dental Nurse Society is perfectly placed to wave in this new chapter. She talks to Julie Bissett

Fiona Ellwood is not a woman to stand still. With a thirst for learning and a hunger for new challenges, the former BADN president, who qualified as a dental nurse in 1986, is just as keen to share her burgeoning knowledge bank as she is to add to it.

Last month saw the launch of the new British Dental Nurse Society (BDNS) and Fiona has happily taken on the mantle of patron, amid a busy life that includes mentoring, a heavy commitment to an MA in Education, the completion of a diploma in special education whilst juggling other roles such as membership of the FGDP (UK) and the National Oral Health Promotion Group committee and more.
