Tooth eruption (teething) is the normal physiological process by which teeth move from their position enclosed in bone to their final position in the oral environment. The first tooth normally appears in the mouth of an infant at approximately 6 months of age, but this can vary widely and it is not unknown for perfectly normal, healthy children to have no teeth by the time they reach their first birthday.
The process of teething occurs at a time in the child’s life where there is great change and as such it has been associated with many signs and symptoms (Ramos-Jorge et al. 2011; Sood and Sood, 2010; Feldens et al. 2010; Peretz et al. 2003).
