A few years ago, a large pub food chain contacted me and asked if I wanted to become a ‘mystery shopper’ at one of their pubs. I was to go with my family, order a meal and report back on my observations relating to the environment, speed and efficiency of service, quality of food and anything else that affected my enjoyment of the evening. So we went along, had our meal, submitted the report and had our expenses refunded. Just being asked to participate in this way made me far more observant and analytical of the various aspects that contributed to our ‘eating experience’.
