Contracts of employment: Getting it right the first time

Preparing written contracts of employment can be seen as laborious to prepare, tailor and keep updated. However, the benefits of having a written record of the terms of the employment relationship can be hugely beneficial in addition to being a legal requirement.

There are particular benefits to be gained from a properly drafted and maintained contract of employment in the dental sector. As set out below, such contracts can achieve certainty and avoid disputes arising by helping to ensure that both employer and employee understand their respective obligations and duties.

The law requires employees be provided with a written ‘statement of employment particulars’ (Section 1, Employment Rights Act 1996) within two months of their start date.
