It is the legal agreement between the patient and the dental professional that ensures the patient is fully informed of the treatment they will receive and that they agree to it. As a dental nurse, it is important to understand the importance of obtaining informed consent and to assist in this process. This paper aims to outline the principles of consent including legal and regulatory requirements and practical considerations for the wider dental team.
