It was recently reported that the NHS could save £8.2 million a year if all 12 year olds across the UK chewed sugarfree gum after eating and drinking1. This came as no surprise to many – the state of our children’s health is frequently reported as a major concern.
A Child Dental Health Survey (released by the government in 2013) shared the impact poor oral health has on young people’s self esteem and quality of life. It has a much wider consequence on individuals at this delicate stage in life and further research and investigations continue to try to help improve the health of our youth as well as lessen the financial burden on the NHS.
