As part of the dental team, there is an expectation upon you to understand and support an environment of clinical excellence and team cohesion. This approach expects everyone to work professionally, ethically, to the best of their ability (within their Scope of Practice) and in the best interests of patients.
The General Dental Council’s Standards for the Dental Team maintains: ‘You must treat colleagues fairly and with respect, in all situations and all forms of interaction and communication. You must not bully, harass, or unfairly discriminate against them.’
Workplace respect
But, it is a fact of life that working relationships can be volatile and are inevitably subject to failure at times. However, in a dental environment, this can have impact on others outside of the team circle – in other words, the patients.
