Tommy Macgregor recalls how making the right moves has taken him from raised eyebrows to eye-opening experiences

Over the years, dental nursing has opened up so many opportunities to me and given me the confidence to believe in myself – and my abilities. Being a male dental nurse back then did raise quite a few eyebrows and I had to work really to prove myself to some people. Today, a career in dental nursing for men is viewed more positively and it's great to see more and more coming forward. My career began back in September 1994. On leaving school, I managed to secure a job as a trainee dental nurse with Highland Communities NHS Trust (now NHS Highland) on the Skill Seekers programme. This was a training partnership between the Trust and Highland Training Limited, a local training organisation.
