Pamela Gill reviews this year’s British Orthodontic Conference

As we arrived at Manchester’s Midland Hotel on September 15 for the British Orthodontic Conference 2021, the sun was shining and there was a real feel of excitement about attending the first face-to-face gathering in such a long time. The venue itself had undergone a £14m refurbishment and you could definitely feel the opulence despite the chaos of all the trades and companies setting up their exhibition stands.

We set up the Orthodontic National Group (ONG) stand with goody bags for all of the orthodontic nurses, orthodontic therapists and practice managers that would be coming to the conference. We offered a prize to the first person to visit our stand who shared a photo of it on social media. The gift was a worker bee mug with wooden honeycomb bee decoration and a tea bag. After this initial prize the mugs were available to buy, and money from each sale was donated to Coffee4Craig, a charity which is a vital support for Manchester’s homeless and people in crisis. The winner of the first prize was Amanda Hagan, an orthodontic therapist at Overleigh Orthodontics in Chester.
