Dental implants have seen a dramatic rise worldwide as a reasonable and reliable treatment option for patients. Indeed, the rise in popularity is attributable to the fact that implants look, feel and function like natural teeth allowing patients with the ability and confidence to engage in life fully. The placement of dental implants allows a patient who previously struggled to enjoy a full range of foods, improving the ability to chew and eat, speak clearly and smile amongst other positive impacts, bringing a better quality of life. Over time, an implant has the ability to preserve the jawbone and reduce bone resorption. It follows then that both implant placement and restoration is becoming more commonplace in the general dental practice. By the same token, dental nurses will be contributing to the treatment of these patients, so now is the time for dental nurses to empower themselves with knowledge to help care for these patients.
