Dentistry is a challenging and interesting role and was the first part-time job I was offered when my family were young. I qualified in 1984, but have not worked in the surgery for some years, as I have been teaching and working in education instead. The role requires you to be sociable, empathetic and to like people.
I have been lucky enough to work with two major influences in my career. My first boss, David Keene, an ex- services dentist, and an excellent orthodontist, followed by my second boss, the late Wing Commander Graham Smart, a forward-thinking periodontist who was inspirational, and very encouraging in my professional development.
