Every dental practice has a duty of care for its patients to provide an effective and safe service.1 In 2020 the Resuscitation (Resus) Council UK updated its standards for clinical and non-clinical dental staff, originally published in 2013.2 All members of the dental team should be aware of their roles and should have regular training sessions to ensure that their knowledge is up to date and correct.3,4
The General Dental Council (GDC) Standards for the Dental Team states that the dental team must “put patient interest first”,5 and in section 1.5.3 it states, “You must follow the guidance on medical emergencies and training updates issued by the Resuscitation Council (UK)”.6
