Clementine Rees Brown speaks with Joan Hatchard, the new honorary president of the BADN.

Can you give us a little of your background up to this point with the BADN?

My experience up until now has quite a bit of breadth. Firstly I was on BADN Council, which became BADN Executive Committee in 2015 and my various roles, including chairman and treasurer helped build my understanding of how we get things done. Before dental nursing, I was in the military;after having my two children, I started dental nursing and becamepractice manager of a two surgery private practice. I realised that there were so many other areas in in which I should educate myself – understanding people’s values, what a dental nurse might be struggling with, either personally or professionally, and then above all showing them what value there is in becoming a member of the BADN: things like our constant support throughout the year, the ability to connect and network together at all the different dental events in the calendar, the CPD that we provide, of course, through our monthly ‘Coffee CatchUps’.
