What makes an irreplaceable dental nurse? Celebrity cosmetic dentist Uchenna Okoye lists her ‘must haves’ for a great team member

Dr Uchenna Okoye is the clinical director of the London Smiling Dental Group. She runs three private dental practices in London and is the resident dentist on hit TV makeover show, 10 Years Younger. Here, she outlines what makes the ideal dental nurse for her.

Assets

One of the major assets of a great dental nurse is their attention to detail – the kind of person who once upon a time would have put their CD or DVD collection into alphabetical order just for the sheer pleasure of it!

I like dental nurses who not only work under their own volition, but also have an aptitude for flexibility. A positive attitude is a must have, as I enjoy working alongside people with a half-full view on life, whatever the challenges. Essentially, they also have to care – for me, for the job they are doing, for the team and for our paying ‘guests’ or patients. This is especially important in the current climate when expectations are raised and patients need to have confidence in us as a clinical team to offer them the safest route to excellent dental care.
