A look at the benefits of real time, fully automatic cycle data management, a technology that has featured in both the success enjoyed by Team GB's Olympic sailing and rowing squads and, more recently, as part of the America's Cup challenge

Today, a data logger – a small electronic device that records data over time – is one of the most useful technologies on earth. It is also one of the most diverse and has been adapted to suit a variety of different environments and situations, particularly when it comes to recording and managing wind speed and direction data. The benefits that the technology provides are of great value to a number of professionals in a huge range of disciplines – from America's Cup sailors to Olympic rowers and even dentists (but we'll get to that later). One of the main advantages is that measurements can always be taken at the right time. This is due to the removal of human participation, which eliminates the possibility of error. In addition to that, it affords the user the ability to automatically collect data on a 24-hour basis or, as frequently as required. What's more, the technology can transmit the data it collects wirelessly, to a central location, in real-time.
