Nina Garlo explores how oral health and new technologies can boost athletic performance.

Finnish ultra-runner, Juuso Simpanen, believes that focusing on athletes’ oral health could significantly enhance the Nordic country’s sports success and suggests that the Finnish Olympic Committee should promote this more actively. Juuso highlights the significance of thorough preparation and healthy lifestyles in achieving competition success. According to him, good oral health, which involves daily oral hygiene routines and the regular use of the antibacterial Lumoral device, is vital to this overall wellbeing.

Juuso said, “In long-distance races, where sugar intake is continuous, oral health is essential as it can affect both immediate performance and long-term wellbeing”.

He encourages the Finnish Olympic Committee to pay more attention to how oral health impacts athletes’ overall wellbeing. Juuso also stresses that even minor improvements in oral health can significantly enhance athletes’ performance and help prevent long-term health issues.
