Why choose dentistry? Student dental nurse Maisie Morris reveals what drove her to seek this career of opportunities

Maisie Morris is a trainee dental nurse based at Church Lane Dental Practice in Stafford. Here, she reveals her passion for her new career…

Why dentistry?

Because it is specialised and career progression can be good if you want it enough. The role is not very well publicised and that really needs to be looked at. I was studying health and social care and just happened to look on the apprenticeship website and dental nursing jumped out at me. All I knew was that university was not for me.

What character traits do you think you need as a dental nurse?

You need to be caring, understanding, have a tidy mind and a respect and awareness of patients –putting them and their preferences first. Dental nurses need to be patient and committed, especially if they wish to develop a career.
