There has been much time and money spent researching the ingredients needed within a workplace to create high productivity from staff. Most draw the conclusion that an environment in which everyone is treated with dignity and respect – and the talents and skills of different groups valued – can improve productivity and customer service because the workforce is happier, more motivated and more aware of the benefits this brings. As a dental professional, clarification of expectations is an essential component of best practice when delivering dental health care; an environment of honest communication essential to managing risk. But this clarity needs to extend to all members – administrative as well as clinical – as it is important that the whole team work towards creating an environment in which it can meet the quality and safety expectations of patients.
