Last November when I was invited by Dentaid The Dental Charity to visit one of its mobile clinics in Maidstone I jumped at the chance. We have had a number of articles regarding the work of the charity and I was keen to see first hand exactly what a day at a mobile clinic looks like. The invitation came a couple of months before the day of the event – in September, when the summer was just about still with us. On the day of the clinic it was cold, wet and windy, the kind of day you wish you could just turn off the alarm, roll over and relax in the comfort of a nice warm bed. The temptation to do just that lasted a second or two, until realising that for the people who access the clinic’s service (the homeless or insecurely housed) there is often no such comfort, relaxation or security.
