When arriving in Birmingham city centre to attend the annual BOC conference, I have to confess there was an element of nervousness and excitement at what could potentially come in the following days in terms of a first-class orthodontic and dental nursing learning experience. Having lived in the West Midlands for a large part of my childhood, I was taken aback by the transformation of the city I had practically called home as a child. What I remember as a slightly foreboding place, seemed to have been transformed into a crisp and architecturally vibrant metropolis in the early September sun.
Heading to the prestigious ICC venue, I could already see people flocking through the front doors and heading toward the main hall. Once inside, the atmosphere felt positively abuzz with the energy of old friends and colleagues greeting each other after countless virtual events and distance. The addition of copious amounts of biscuits, tea, and coffee certainly helped things along, and once everyone was settled in we enjoyed a day of fascinating, creative, and expertly given lectures. These included a list of notable guest speakers such as Michael Mosley, Sandra Tai, Lars Christensen, Björn Ludwig, Ewa Czochrowska and Pawel Placwicz. After the speakers of the day concluded their talks, everyone returned to their respective hotels to refresh and recharge, before enjoying a sensational gala evening to which all were invited and heading into the city’s evening to enjoy the local sights and evening entertainment.
