Confidentiality is key to providing our patients with dental care. We need to ask them some very personal questions, particularly about their health and medical history and they trust us to keep that information confidential and to keep it secure. Security includes how we physically keep information, whether that be electronically or in locked cupboards; how we share information with those who need to know, for example when making referrals; and how we talk about our patients. Conversations about patients can be overheard and confidentiality breached more easily than you may think. Here are my five key things you should know about confidentiality.
