0-30 days
The first 30 days of your trainee’s journey feels a bit “go, go, go”. Starting with the obvious steps, such as arranging uniform, vaccinations, inductions, computer training, shadowing, and learning the endless appointment types, the trainee will also be trying to settle in and integrate with the team.
Remember they aren’t allowed to handle contaminated instruments until they have had their vaccinations, but there are still so many “firsts” in this month. At times, this can feel quite overwhelming for them and also their nurse mentor, the dental nurse appointed to oversee much of their practice training. The college course feels a long way off at this point, meaning so many things they learn are without a wider context and it’s hard for some things to click into place in their heads fully before they have started.
