Reducing Covid-19 risk during dentist appointments

3 mins read Risk management
According to a study by The University of Leeds, dentists could significantly increase the number of patients they see during the pandemic by switching the drills they use.

The study, 'Dental Mitigation Strategies to Reduce Aerosolization of SARS-CoV-2', explained, “The potential nosocomial spread of pathogens including severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) through oral fluid aerosolization provides a significant risk to patients, dentists, and oral health care teams. During the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, extensive constraints have been placed on dentistry worldwide, with a particular focus on aerosol-generating procedures (AGPs) (World Health Organization 2020). These constraints affect widely upon dentistry delivery in practices/offices and on multioccupancy teaching clinics. There is a paucity of robust data supporting some of these restrictions; it is essential to investigate the efficacy of mitigation strategies and the requirement for fallow time between patients.”
