Roz McMullan has been awarded an OBE for services to mental health and wellbeing in the dentistry profession.

Roz was appointed consultant orthodontist in the Western Health and Social Care Trust (WHSCT) Altnagelvin, Tyrone County and Erne (later South West Acute) hospitals in 1991. She had an interest in treatment of children born with cleft lip and palate and established a cleft nurse liaison service to support the children and their families. She is also a British Orthodontic Society (BOS) honorary patron and a former BDA president.

During her time working in Northern Ireland, eight dentists took their own lives in a 12-month period, three of whom Roz knew well. With others, she decided to learn more about the causes and prevention of suicide and why there is such a high prevalence in the medical, dental and veterinary professions.
